Turkey Swamp County Park
200 Georgia Road, Freehold, NJ 07728
Thanks to Scotts RV Sales in Lakewood NJ, Mrs. Julio found Turkey Swamp County Park on the Internet. New Jersey State Parks are really inadequate for camping because they offer no Electric or Water.

However, this Monmouth County Park does! That's right, a County Park has amenities that the Big Boys do not.

This Park offers camping, a beach area, fishing lake, boating, nature trails, biking trails, and many other activities.

So off we go with the KIWI on another Adventure with the Dogs. Their life preservers are ready, canoe is on top of the Merc along with bikes on back, fishing gear is stowed away, meals are being planned, and clothes for the weekend prepared.

In the background you can hear "Little Eva's" smash hit 'Let's Turkey Trot' from 1963. What better way than to get ready for the weekend than listening to hits of "Yesteryear".

The "Ferrell Hillbillies" were on the road by noon Friday. An early start was essential. Within four miles of our trip we stopped at WAWA for gas, and along Route 55 to check our KIWI connection. Further along we also stopped for numerous "doggie pee breaks". Oh yea, there was one for Mrs. Julio too!

After our arrival at the campground we noticed a few important facts. (1) We left one propane tank home and that caused us to not be able to use the one we had remaining. It seems once you turn the tank on if another tank is not on the T_Line, propane gas escapes. NOT GOOD! So we solved that by going to Home Depot and buying another tank which we will return to a store at home. It's like "Rent a Tank". However, we did that on Saturday so Friday we had no way of cooking dinner. Ah, the Wieland's. Thrill a minute.

We also discovered the lack of (2) paper plates, bounty towels, cereal, mayonnaise, and ice. These are things that any food store or Wal-Mart can readily rectify. Upon waking nice and early Saturday morning it became clear that (3) there would be no breakfast because there was no fuel to cook with. You do agree that nothing else could go goofy? Wrong, (4)always quick of wit, who needs propane when you have a microwave to cook for you? The only problem is that when we turned the 'wave' on the 30 amp circuit blew out. After the 4th try it was apparent that our 30 amps were only 20. So once again, poop out of luck.

(5) Next we found a leak under the sink. We can fix that in DRY DOCK. However, (6) when we discovered no water in our Fresh Water tank and I filled it before leaving .... that points to a bigger leak, like maybe a crack? Looks like dry dock is really going to be busy!

Now the flow of luck began to change. We found a delightful diner not far from the campground that was right across the road from an ACME.

After a good Spanish Omelet, not great mind you but OK, we hit the ACME with vengeance. Scooping up all the items on our "forgot list" and including others that were not or never would be. So we headed for the Depot next. As mentioned we got a new propane tank and asked Mrs. GPS to get us back to the 102 degree campground so we could enjoy our weekend at last.

And so we did. Turkey Swamp CG turned out to be a diamond in the rough compared to the Wieland's boondoggle! Great campsites, biking roads nice and smooth, beautiful lake with a fishing pier, a small campground store with ice, and best of all ..... very quiet at night. No drunks or perverts besides myself!

We'll definitely return later in the year when the temperature drops below 100 degrees.
