"Raystown Lake"

Hesston, PA

September 25, 2014

Here we are back for 7 days at the site of the great “2013 Huntingdon Medical Hoax”, Raystown Lake, a Corp of Engineering facility. For more information and details concerning that debacle checkout the Website https://esu72.tripod.com/raystown.htm.

The Lake has always been one of our favorites and getting a chance to stop with The Busted Flush is one of our ‘Bucket List’ dreams.

Now that we have a working water pump, camping here overlooking the Lake with only electric is much easier. The fact that we need water is solved by stopping before setting up camp and filling our 105 gallon fresh water tank. About every third day we need to empty our sewage tank but with the help of our portable ‘pooper tank’ on wheels we simply tow it to the dump station and empty the contents.

This time of year the Ranger Station is not manned, so campers pick there site, and from 12-4pm the following day report where they are located. We were very surprised that most of the sites situated on the water were taken. But luck fell our way and we were able to get a site located on a hill overlooking the Lake and this site was deep enough to accommodate The Flush.

Unfortunately our Direct TV luck didn’t hold up. Once again the trees prevented us from making a satellite connection. What the satellite didn’t know was that since we were here before we knew a Sports Pub in Huntingdon that had satellite TV, fabulous food, awesome Wings, and cold beer.

With the temperatures remaining nice and cozy all week we were able to get out on the Kayak and enjoy the Lake a few times. Next year when we visit I need to make sure I acquire a Pennsylvania fishing license because the folks next to us caught a 18 pound Hybrid Stripped Bass and loads of Crappie, Blue Gills, and Perch. We were lucky enough to be given a number of fillets which we accepted happily and breaded them for breakfast with eggs the next morning.

One morning we got to stop at the “Route 22 Diner” for breakfast and I got my favorite, Country Fried Steak & eggs. It’s an all-time winner. Every time we stop here I try to pick the goofiest thing I can find on the menu simply because I may never see it again.

We stopped at the local Post Office in Hesston, Pa., and was told by the part time Postmaster that in the not so distant future our U.S. Post Office sytem will be replaced by most likely AMAZON. It seems they have a superior shipping system in place and our Government has wanted to do away with it for a long time.

One thing for sure, our dogs, Abby & Molly, love it here. The place is loaded with Chipmunks. They are everywhere. Poor Molly would sit for hours at attention not being able to chase after them due to our invisible dog fence holding them back. I always wondered what they would do with one if they caught it. My money is on the Chipmunk. .
